Joy News’ Albert Sore announces bid to contest for Upper East Regional GJA Chairmanship
In a statement released on Thursday June 5, Sore confirmed that he has successfully filed his nomination and completed the vetting process to contest the race.
Albert Sore, the current Regional Secretary of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) in the Upper East Region and Regional Correspondent for Joy News, has announced his candidacy for the position of Regional Chairman in the upcoming GJA National and Regional Executive Elections, slated for June 30, 2025.
In a statement released on Thursday June 5, Sore confirmed that he has successfully filed his nomination and completed the vetting process to contest the race.
His decision to run, he stated, follows careful consideration and encouragement from colleagues and members of the GJA who believe his experience makes him well-placed to lead the association in the region.
“Having served diligently as the Regional Secretary for the past three years, and recently stepping into the role of acting Chairman following the relocation of Chairman William N. Jalulah, I believe I am prepared to take up this leadership role and continue building on the foundation we have laid,” Sore said.

The position of Regional Chairman became vacant after the outgoing Chairman, William N. Jalulah, accepted a new role with the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA) in Accra and chose not to seek re-election.
With over 14 years of experience in journalism within the Upper East Region, Sore has worked as a correspondent for Joy News and other Multimedia Group platforms, as well as at local media outlets.
His campaign is centered on six key pillars, which he outlined as follows:
- Building on existing gains to strengthen the visibility and vibrancy of the regional GJA branch
- Establishing a permanent Regional Secretariat for the association
- Forming partnerships to deliver training and capacity-building opportunities for members
- Increasing female participation in journalism through targeted support and programs
- Creating a structured welfare system, with the goal of forming an emergency support fund
- Expanding GJA membership significantly by the end of his first term
Sore promised to release a detailed policy document in the coming days and emphasized his track record as a dedicated member of the outgoing executive.
“As Secretary, I played a key role in organizing successful regional GJA Awards in 2023 and 2024, led the drafting of funding proposals, and contributed to major events like our regional public lectures on Press Freedom and Climate Change,” he added.
Sore also stated that under his tenure as Regional Secretary, active GJA membership in the Upper East Region grew from 16 in 2022 to nearly 50 in 2024, a milestone he attributes to effective teamwork and commitment.
Sore expressed gratitude to members of the association in the region for their continued support and appealed for unity and collaboration to advance the cause of journalism in the region.
