NDC suspends Daniel Nortey from media appearances over sexual abuse remarks

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has suspended Daniel Nortey from all media appearances and public engagements on behalf of the party, following remarks he made during a televised discussion on allegations of sexual abuse against the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School.

The suspension, which takes immediate effect and will remain in force until further notice, was announced by the party’s National Communication Bureau in a statement dated October 22.

The party’s Communication Directorate said it viewed Nortey’s remarks with serious concern and distaste, stressing that allegations of sexual abuse must be treated with the utmost seriousness, particularly when the safety, dignity and welfare of children are involved.

The NDC reiterated its zero-tolerance stance on sexual abuse and all forms of sexual exploitation, condemning comments that trivialise such allegations or undermine the seriousness with which they should be addressed.

The statement acknowledged an unreserved apology issued by Nortey over his remarks but emphasised the need for responsible public commentary, especially on sensitive matters involving alleged sexual abuse.

According to the party, discussions on such allegations must be guided by responsibility, sensitivity and respect for due process, rather than being trivialised or reduced to partisan political debate.

The NDC further reaffirmed its commitment to protecting women and children, promoting accountability and ensuring that allegations of sexual abuse are handled in accordance with the law.

The suspension comes amid public attention surrounding allegations of sexual abuse against the Headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School. The allegations must be addressed through the appropriate investigative and legal processes.
