NEDCo warns against illegal connections, cautions customers against fraudsters

Ahmed stressed that illegal connections and meter tampering are criminal offenses under Ghana’s laws and could lead to severe legal consequences for offenders.

The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) has issued a stern warning to customers in the Upper East Region to desist from illegal electricity connections and any attempts to tamper with electric meters.

Adam Ahmed, a Customer Relations Assistant at the Upper East Regional Office of NEDCo, speaking on Utility Hour, a weekly radio program aired on Mike FM, stressed that illegal connections and meter tampering are criminal offenses under Ghana’s laws and could lead to severe legal consequences for offenders.

Illegal connection has to do with tampering unlawfully or unapproved way of dealing with our metres without recourse to NEDCo, it’s the sole responsibility of NEDCo staff and so even if you have a very serious challenge, all you have to do is you have to come to the office and say you have a problem.”

In addition to concerns over power theft, Ahmed warned the public against falling prey to fraudsters who claim to be agents of NEDCo and demand money for the provision of meters or other services. He stressed that the company does not operate any mobile money accounts, and all payments must be made through official channels.

We have no Momo number at all, if you are ready to pay, you come straight to the office with your quotation letter and you pay at NEDCo office, there is nothing like a Momo number and so anyone who calls you and says pay this amount into this Momo, that’s a fraud. He warned.

Ahmed advised customers seeking meters or service-related assistance to visit the nearest NEDCo office for accurate information and legitimate processes.
