NPP accuses Kassena-Nankana Municipal Assembly of failing to credit previous administration for projects

NPP Communications Officer Jacob Asomadawine alleges that the Assembly failed to acknowledge projects initiated under the previous administration and calls for transparency on outstanding development commitments.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Navrongo Central Constituency has accused the Kassena-Nankana Municipal Assembly of failing to acknowledge projects initiated by the party’s administration during its recent Accounting to the People Forum.

The forum, held on Friday October 9, provided the Assembly with an opportunity to present projects and initiatives undertaken over the past two years, while allowing residents to ask questions and contribute ideas towards the municipality’s development.

However, the NPP has expressed dissatisfaction with the presentation, arguing that some projects showcased by the Assembly were initiated, funded or started under the previous NPP administration but were presented without acknowledging the party’s contribution.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Wednesday October 14, the Navrongo Central Constituency Communications Officer of the NPP, Jacob Asomadawine, said aspects of the presentation by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) did not accurately reflect the history of some projects.

He explained that a review of the projects presented at the forum indicated that several had been initiated under the previous government, raising concerns that the current administration was being given undue credit for their implementation.

“The forum is a good initiative. We support accountability. The people have the right to know what the Assembly is doing. But accountability must come with honesty. If a project was started by the previous government, you must say it. You cannot sideline the legacy of the NPP in Navrongo Central,” Asomadawine stated.

He disclosed that the party’s Constituency Communications Directorate had issued an official statement expressing its displeasure and calling on the Assembly to provide residents with a fair and factual account of the municipality’s development projects.

Asomadawine stressed that the NPP was not opposed to the continuation of projects initiated under its administration, noting that development was a continuous process that required successive governments to acknowledge one another’s contributions.

“Development is a continuum, and successive governments must give credit where credit is due to maintain trust and political decency,” he said.

Among the projects he cited were a school project at Nawognia, which he said was initiated by the NPP administration and completed by the NDC, the Gayungu Clinic and the Tanga-Biisi culvert.

He maintained that acknowledging the origins of such projects would promote transparency and enable residents to properly assess the contributions of successive administrations to the municipality’s development.

The NPP communicator further argued that genuine accountability should go beyond presenting completed or ongoing projects to include a clear account of what the current administration inherited, what it had achieved and which commitments remained outstanding.

He also criticised the NDC and the MCE for what he described as selective reporting, accusing them of failing to adequately address the progress of promises made to residents.

These, he said, included the proposed establishment of Women’s Development Banks, the completion of the Navrongo Youth Resource Centre and the implementation of the government’s 24-hour economy policy.

Asomadawine called for a more comprehensive account of these commitments, insisting that residents deserved clear information on the status of development projects and the extent to which promises made to them had been fulfilled.
