NPP disciplinary action not to gag members – Party Communicator
Zakariah explained that the move by the NPP to refer Abronye to the National Disciplinary Committee is to safeguard unity and discipline within the party.
A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team in the Navrongo Central Constituency, Bawa Zakariah, has clarified that the referral of Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, to the party’s National Disciplinary Committee is not meant to silence members from expressing their views.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Wednesday October 1, Zakariah explained that the move was to safeguard unity and discipline within the party.
“The party came out first to let everybody know that it dissociates itself from such comments. But the remarks made by Abronye DC, in particular, are trying to bring some kind of internal wrangling and disunity in the party. So, we have only called him to probably find out whether anyone has influenced him to make such comments,” he stated.
Zakariah emphasized that the NPP remains committed to its democratic structures and processes, adding that no individual can manipulate the party’s electoral system.
“Everybody knows that the register has not been changed; it was the same register used for the last elections. They only added a few people, and no one can influence the process,” he stressed.
The NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, on Monday referred Abronye DC to the National Disciplinary Committee over what the party described as “unbecoming conduct.”
The move follows recent controversial comments by the outspoken Bono Regional Chairman, which the party leadership says have the potential to undermine internal cohesion ahead of its upcoming electoral activities.
