NPP said we wouldn’t last beyond three weeks, but here we are – Solomon Owusu

Solomon Owusu, the interim National Communications Director of the United Party Plus (UP Plus), has touted the remarkable growth of the party since its inception as the Movement for Change to its current state.
United Party Plus, the political movement led by Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, evolved from the Movement for Change, which was formed in 2023 after its leader broke away from the then-governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, leader of the party contested the 2024 general elections as an independent candidate with a promise to, among other things, eradicate corruption and improve the livelihoods of Ghanaians through industrialization.
Although the party was formed just a year before the elections, it managed to make a significant impact on the electorate and has since continued to build on its early success to expand its following.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Navrongo-based Mike FM, Owusu noted that critics, especially within the NPP, mocked the party’s choice of a butterfly as its symbol, claiming it would not last beyond three weeks.
“We are very much organised. But our brothers in the NPP want to try to poo poo what we are doing.”
“In the days after we launched our Movement for Change when our brothers go to know that our logo was a butterfly, what they said was that the lifespan of a butterfly is not beyond three weeks.”
He, however, stated that the party has proved its critics wrong by growing and transforming into a vibrant political force that will stand the test of time.
Owusu added that the party is currently strengthening its organizational structures to ensure full operational efficiency.
“Some of us were there to build the NPP. So, we know how to build and we are determined to build a vigorous party.”
He, therefore, urged Ghanaians to join the United Party Plus, which he described as a refreshing alternative to both the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC), insisting that the two dominant parties have failed to steer the country in the right direction over the years.
