NPP seeking relevance with GH¢1 fuel levy accountability demands — NDC Communicator
NDC communicator defends fuel levy use, dismisses NPP criticism as political posturing

A Communications Team Member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Navrongo Central Constituency, Godfred Apolala, has criticised the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) over its calls for accountability in the use of proceeds from the GH¢1 fuel levy, describing the move as an attempt to regain political relevance.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday, May 1, Apolala stated that funds generated from the levy have been used to address debts in the energy sector, which he attributed to the previous NPP administration.
“We have used the money to settle part of the energy sector debts that they caused” He said.
He questioned the moral authority of the NPP to demand accountability, arguing that revenues accrued from policies such as the electronic levy and COVID-19-related levies during their tenure were not sufficiently accounted for.
“The NPP introduced the e-levy and COVID-19 levy during their administration. Did they tell us what they used the proceeds for?” He asked.
Apolala further accused the opposition of attempting to court public attention, insisting that their criticisms are driven by a desire for relevance and popularity.
“They are only seeking relevance and popularity.” he added.
Touching on the recent power challenges experienced in parts of the country, Apolala assured that the situation is being addressed and appealed to the public to remain patient as government works to resolve the issues.
