Passage of Mahama Cares bill another step in reset agenda – Maurice Achana
Achana described the bill’s approval by Parliament as a major stride toward improving healthcare delivery, particularly for underprivileged Ghanaians battling chronic illnesses.
Maurice Achana, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team in the Navrongo Central Constituency, has hailed the passage of the Ghana Medical Care Trust Fund, popularly known as Mahama Cares, as a significant step in the party’s reset agenda.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Wednesday, July 23, Achana described the bill’s approval by Parliament as a major stride toward improving healthcare delivery, particularly for underprivileged Ghanaians battling chronic illnesses.
“This is another bold step towards the reset agenda promised by President Mahama and the NDC during the 2024 election campaign.” Achana stated.
“It is a step in the right direction. Kudos to the President, the Health Minister, and all Members of Parliament who supported and passed the bill. We hope its purpose will be fully realized.”
Achana also criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for opposing the proposed allocation of 20% of the National Health Insurance Levy (NHIL) to fund the initiative. He accused the NPP of deliberately undermining a policy that could benefit millions.
“They’re upset about allocating 20% of the NHIL to support Mahama Cares,” he said. “But let’s be honest, between that and capping the NHIL and using it as collateral for loans that end up in private pockets, which would Ghanaians prefer?”
