Regentropfen University College Founder selected for Ghana Philanthropy Awards
Regentropfen University College Founder Recognised for Contributions to Education for Underprivileged Children
The Founder and President of Regentropfen University College, Rev. Fr. Dr Moses Asaah Awinongya, has been selected for the Distinguished Contribution to Education for Underprivileged Children Award at the fifth edition of the Ghana Philanthropy Awards, scheduled for November 19, in Accra.
A formal letter dated October 14, communicated the selection to Rev. Fr. Dr Awinongya, with the organisers citing his contributions to education, social well-being and national development.
The awards ceremony is expected to take place at the Alisa Hotel in Accra under the theme, “Honouring Purpose-Driven Giving for a Better Ghana.”
The recognition comes as Regentropfen University College marks a decade of providing tertiary education opportunities in the Upper East Region, growing from an initial enrolment of 46 students in 2016 to approximately 1,300 students in 2026.
Established in Namoo in the Bongo District, the institution was founded on the vision of bringing higher education closer to young people in underserved communities, where studying outside their localities can impose considerable financial and logistical challenges on students and their families.
Over the past decade, the university college has expanded its academic programmes and infrastructure, strengthening its role in providing professional and practical training in northern Ghana.
At its 10th anniversary celebrations in October, Rev. Fr. Dr Awinongya reaffirmed his commitment to using education to promote talent development, entrepreneurship and community advancement.
He emphasised that the purpose of a university should go beyond awarding certificates to preparing young people to make meaningful contributions to society.
The institution, which initially received accreditation to run 10 programmes comprising five diploma and five undergraduate degree programmes, has since expanded its offerings to five diploma programmes, 10 undergraduate degree programmes and three postgraduate programmes.
Its academic portfolio covers disciplines including business, computing, education, health and agriculture, reflecting its efforts to provide training relevant to students’ aspirations and the needs of the wider economy.
Regentropfen University College has also outlined plans to strengthen postgraduate education, research, industry partnerships and international collaborations. It is pursuing a charter that would enable it to operate as an autonomous university, subject to the relevant regulatory requirements.
The planned expansion forms part of the institution’s long-term strategy to improve professional training and widen access to higher education in northern Ghana.
The Ghana Philanthropy Awards is organised by The Business Executive, a Ghana-based media and events group. The awards scheme recognises individuals, businesses and institutions for philanthropic interventions, charitable initiatives, corporate social responsibility and contributions to socio-economic development.
According to the organisers, the selection process involves nominations and independent evaluation.
Rev. Fr. Dr Awinongya’s selection highlights the role of educational initiatives in creating opportunities for children and young people from underserved communities, particularly in areas where access to tertiary education remains a key development priority.
The fifth Ghana Philanthropy Awards ceremony is scheduled for November 19.
