UE: Police arrest seven suspected armed robbers for robbery activities in Garu, Zebilla
Seven suspected armed robbers have been arrested over alleged robbery activities in Zebilla, Garu and Binduri, with weapons, motorbikes, drugs and cash recovered.
The Upper East Regional Police Command has arrested seven suspected armed robbers for their alleged involvement in robbery activities in Zebilla, Garu and Binduri.
The suspects have been identified as Issaka Iddrisu, 20; Ali Tamimu, 21; Akugre Amobila, 26; Banabas Apiiga, 41; Abdul-Rashid Adamu, 38; Apiiga Alebena, 21; and Bilal Adabodee, 31.
According to the Police, the arrests were made through an intelligence-led operation involving the Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), the newly formed Black Cobra Unit and the Zebilla Neighbourhood Watch Committee.
The Police said the suspects have confessed to being members of a wider network of gangs that allegedly supply them with weapons to carry out robbery operations in Zebilla, Garu and Binduri.
Following the arrests, two victims reported to the Police and identified two of the suspects as members of a three-man armed robbery gang that allegedly robbed them at gunpoint of two Yamaha scooter motorbikes valued at GH¢30,000 and GH¢32,000 respectively.
The victims were also allegedly threatened with death if they reported the incident to the Police.
The suspects, according to the Police, admitted to robbing the victims at gunpoint and disclosed that the weapons used in the operation were allegedly supplied by another suspect, whose name has been withheld, and who is said to be living in Bawku.
The Police further disclosed that a search conducted at the residences of Abdul-Rashid Adamu, Apiiga Alebena and Bilal Adabode led to the recovery of two unregistered motorbikes, quantities of hard drugs and GH¢29,550 in cash, which the Police believe to be proceeds of crime.
All seven suspects have since been remanded into police custody by the Bolgatanga Circuit Court.
They are expected to reappear before the court on September 23.
