Syrian national arrested in Lebanon with 40kg of suspected cocaine from Ghana

NACOC says a coordinated Ghana-Lebanon operation led to the arrest of a Syrian national in Beirut with about 40 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine allegedly brought from Accra.

A Syrian national has been arrested at Rafic Hariri International Airport in Beirut, Lebanon, after allegedly arriving from Accra, Ghana, with approximately 40 kilogrammes of suspected cocaine concealed in two pieces of luggage.

The arrest, which took place on Saturday, October 31, was confirmed by Ghana’s Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) in a press release dated November 1.

According to NACOC, the arrest followed a coordinated controlled delivery operation involving close operational cooperation between Ghanaian and Lebanese drug law enforcement authorities.

The Commission disclosed that efforts were underway to identify and arrest the suspect’s accomplices in Ghana as part of an ongoing operation to dismantle the criminal network behind the shipment.

It explained that the joint operation was designed to identify and apprehend targets at both ends of the drug supply chain while gathering intelligence to disrupt the broader transnational criminal syndicate responsible for the shipment.

NACOC further noted that the operation underscores the commitment of Ghana and Lebanon to combating international drug trafficking through cross-border intelligence-sharing and law enforcement cooperation.

The statement was signed by the Acting Director of Public Affairs and International Relations of NACOC, PNCO Francis Opoku Amoah.
