UE/R: Police search for man who scammed 230 job seekers of GHS 2.8m
Police intelligence suggests the suspect may be hiding in Tamale, Accra, or possibly even Australia. Authorities are appealing to the public to provide any information that could lead to his arrest.
The Police in the Upper East Region have launched a manhunt for Mark Zakaria, who is suspected of defrauding 230 job seekers out of GHS 2.8 million under the pretext of securing them employment in state security and educational services.
Zakaria, who has since gone into hiding, allegedly collected funds from the victims between March and November 2024, with the false promise of facilitating job placements in various government agencies. He further assured the victims that their money would be refunded if he failed to deliver on his promises.
After more than a year without fulfilling any of the promised placements, Zakaria reportedly cut all contact with the victims and disappeared.
Following numerous unsuccessful attempts to retrieve their money, the victims lodged complaints with the Bolgatanga Police, prompting investigations that led to the arrest of one of Zakaria’s accomplices.
A warrant for Zakaria’s arrest was subsequently secured from the Bolgatanga Circuit Court.

“Anyone with credible information on the whereabouts of Mark Zakaria is urged to contact the nearest police station,” a police spokesperson stated.
