Unlike Akufo Addo, President Mahama’s performance is impressive – NDC’s Scooby
Abuga rated the President’s performance above over 70%, citing the successful fulfillment of a majority of the 26 campaign promises Mahama made at the start of his new term.
Benjamin Biadana Abuga, a communications team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Navrongo, has lauded President John Dramani Mahama’s performance in his first 120 days in office, describing it as impressive and trust-affirming.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday April 28, Abuga rated the President’s performance above over 70%, citing the successful fulfillment of a majority of the 26 campaign promises Mahama made at the start of his new term.
“I will score him above 70% in fulfilling his word to the people of Ghana. Obviously, he has, to a very large extent, kept every word of his and has retained trust in political leadership,” Abuga stated.
Abuga commended the President’s swift and deliberate approach to governance, particularly highlighting Mahama’s fulfillment of his promise to reduce the number of government ministers to 60— a significant departure from previous administrations.
“Unlike former President Akufo-Addo, who promised to reduce the size of government but eventually ballooned the number of ministers to over 100, President Mahama has kept his word,” Abuga emphasized.
He also pointed to several key initiatives either completed or in progress under Mahama’s leadership. These include:
- The scrapping of selected taxes to ease the burden on Ghanaians
- Implementation of a no academic-fee policy across basic public schools
- Free distribution of sanitary pads to female students
- Introduction of free tertiary education for persons with disabilities
“These actions are not just policy wins; they’re a testament to a leadership style that prioritizes inclusivity, equity, and social justice,” Abuga added.
President Mahama, upon assuming office in early January 2025, unveiled a 26-point “Social Contract” with the Ghanaian people, promising to deliver tangible improvements in governance, education, healthcare, and social welfare within his first 120 days.
With the 120-day mark now reached, political observers, civil society groups, and citizens alike are weighing in on his administration’s early performance.
