Chiana-Paga MP supports 220 women with GHS440,000 to boost farming and business activities
The initiative, funded through the MP’s Common Fund, is aimed at empowering women, most of whom are farmers and petty traders, to improve their livelihoods and support their families.
The Member of Parliament for the Chiana-Paga Constituency, Nikyema Billa Alamzy, has provided financial support to 220 women across the constituency to strengthen their businesses and farming activities.
Each beneficiary received GHS2,000, amounting to a total disbursement of GHS440,000. The initiative, funded through the MP’s Common Fund, is aimed at empowering women, most of whom are farmers and petty traders, to improve their livelihoods and support their families.
Speaking at a meeting with women’s groups at the Chiana Market Square on Thursday, October 2, Alamzy said the intervention was inspired by the struggles many women face in sustaining their economic activities.
“Basically, we are here today trying to empower our women in the district. We are giving every woman GHS2,000 to cushion them because most of them are farmers and petty traders. The wisdom behind this is that our women are suffering. I wish we could have even given them GHS10,000 each, but we don’t have such funds now.” He explained.
The Member of Parliament emphasised that he is committed to channeling every portion of the Common Fund into development projects within the constituency.
The Kassena Nankana West District Chief Executive, Stephen Aeke Akurugo, who also addressed the gathering, assured the women of the government’s commitment to women empowerment. He urged the beneficiaries to invest the support wisely in ventures that will sustain their households.
Some beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the MP, pledging to make good use of the assistance.
“The MP has given us money and we are going to use it to do business. I am already selling shea butter, so I will add this support to the capital I already have. At the end of the day, I will get more profit to take care of my children. I am very happy today.”
As part of the event, Alamzy also presented consignments of LCD streetlights to selected communities within the constituency to improve visibility and security at night.
