Senyalah, General Manager of Mike FM and Upper East Regional Correspondent for TV3, was adjudged the Upper East GJA Journalist of the Year at the 4th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards in Bolgatanga on October 10.
The 2024 Upper East Journalist of the Year, Castro Senyalah, says the recent honour by the Ghana Journalist Association is a call for him to deliver more in his line of duty.
Senyalah, General Manager of Mike FM and Upper East Regional Correspondent for TV3, was adjudged the Upper East GJA Journalist of the Year at the 4th Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards in Bolgatanga on October 10.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday, October 13, Senyalah described the honour as a reflection of the people’s appreciation of his work in the media space.
“This is just a stepping stone. I have won several awards, and this is the icing on the cake. It is a message to me that people are watching, listening, and appreciating what I do silently.”
“Being crowned the Upper East GJA Journalist of the Year means the people of the Upper East Region appreciate my work, and I must keep the momentum going non-stop.”
Senyalah noted that the award comes with greater responsibility to deliver more compelling journalistic works that not only inform but also inspire transformation in society.
He explained that his motivation stems from a passion to bring the pressing issues of society to light, especially in areas affected by conflict and insecurity, despite the dangers associated with such assignments.
“If we all shy away from reporting on the devastating effects of conflicts, where people are killed and maimed, then who will tell the story? When insecurity escalates, we must think of the innocent masses who suffer the most.”
In addition to winning the overall Journalist of the Year, Senyalah also took home awards for Best Governance and Accountability Journalist and Best Conflict and Security Journalist.
His recognition adds to a growing list of accolades celebrating his commitment to responsible, impactful journalism that gives voice to the voiceless and sheds light on critical issues affecting communities in Ghana.
