A 40-year-old woman from Manyoro in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region, Cynthia Napongo, is battling kidney failure and has appealed to the public for financial support to enable her to continue treatment.
Napongo is currently receiving treatment at the Upper East Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga, where she undergoes regular dialysis sessions.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday, October 2, her husband, Andy Allotey, said the family began seeking medical attention after his wife fell ill, but efforts to find a solution proved unsuccessful until she was eventually diagnosed with kidney failure and placed on dialysis.
He said the prolonged treatment has placed a heavy financial burden on the family, adding that funds from their savings, as well as support from friends, relatives and loved ones, have been exhausted.
“What we have spent so far cannot be quantified. I am sure everything put together could even put up a storey building. Virtually we have lost everything we had through this,” he said.
Allotey said his wife has also been scheduled to travel to Accra for a medical procedure to create a fistula, which is expected to cost about GH¢12,000.
In addition, he said the patient requires regular dialysis sessions at the Upper East Regional Hospital, with the family spending close to GH¢1,000 on each week’s treatment-related expenses.
Cynthia Napongo, who also appealed for public support, said her family, friends and loved ones had contributed generously towards her treatment, but the financial demands had eventually exhausted the available resources.
“My family, friends and loved ones have all supported generously, but the huge expenses have exhausted everything. I am appealing to everyone who can support me to show me mercy and help me regain my health.”
She is therefore appealing to individuals, organisations, churches, philanthropists and other benevolent members of the public to support her medical treatment.
