Gov’t distributes tool kits to first batch of NAP beneficiaries in Kassena-Nankana Municipal

Working tools for trade areas including hairdressing, garment making, and carpentry were distributed, while beneficiaries under the mechanical and electrical trade areas are scheduled to receive their tools at a later date.

A total of 28 master craft trainers and over 150 apprentices in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality have benefited from the first batch of the government’s National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP) pilot phase.

The distribution ceremony was held at the premises of the Kassena-Nankana Municipal Assembly on Monday, February 23, 2026. It was led by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Faustina Akeyom Abulu, together with the regional leadership of the National Apprenticeship Programme (NAP).

Working tools for trade areas including hairdressing, garment making, and carpentry were distributed, while beneficiaries under the mechanical and electrical trade areas are scheduled to receive their tools at a later date.

Under the programme, each master craft trainer will receive payment from the government for each of the five apprentices under their tutelage. In addition, every apprentice will receive a monthly stipend of 300 cedis.

Speaking at the event, the MCE noted that the distribution fulfilled President Mahama’s promise to the Ghanaian people and underscored the commitment of the National Democratic Congress government to community empowerment.

“We thank the President for this initiative, he is a man who promises and fulfills.” She said.

Abulu further urged the apprentices to take advantage of the opportunity to develop their skills and secure sustainable livelihoods.

“Take this training seriously, you are lucky to get this opportunuty to get a skill to sharpen your skills for your future, if you take this training seriously it will help your livelihood and that of the municipality and boost our local economy.” The MCE added

The Upper East Regional Coordinator of NAP, James Konzabre, cautioned beneficiary master craft trainers to use the tools strictly for their intended purposes, warning against diverting them for personal use at the expense of the apprentices.

“Any dubious plans for these machines, be sure we have plans for you, if any machine is missing be sure you will account for it.” He warned

He added that the selection criteria were based on applications received, shortlisted candidates, and final approval by professionals from the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education and Training.

The beneficiaries expressed gratitude to the government and pledged to make good use of the opportunity, emphasizing its significance for both personal growth and community development.
