Gov’t awards Airbus contract for four aircrafts to boost defence and transport operations
This is according to a statement released by Airbus on January 15, 2026, from its office in Marignane, France.
The Ministry of Defence has awarded a major contract to Airbus for the supply of four helicopters, aimed at strengthening the country’s defence, emergency response, and transport capabilities.
This is according to a statement released by Airbus on January 15, 2026, from its office in Marignane, France.
The agreement covers the acquisition of two H175M helicopters, alongside one ACH175 and one ACH160. The H175Ms will be deployed as multi-mission platforms, supporting transport, search and rescue operations, emergency medical services, and disaster relief efforts. The ACH175 and ACH160 will be used primarily for transport duties.
Head of Africa and the Middle East Region for Airbus, Arnaud Montalvo, described the agreement as a significant milestone for the company’s operations in Ghana.
“The commitment from Ghana marks the return of Airbus Helicopters to the country with a defined focus on customer support and partnership.” He said.
Montalvo added that Airbus is particularly excited about the introduction of the H175M into Ghana’s aviation fleet, noting its flexibility across defence and security missions.
“This key deal also makes Ghana a leading customer in West Africa for our premium corporate helicopters, the ACH160 and ACH175.” He added
The H175 helicopter, which has been in service since 2014, belongs to the super-medium class of aircraft. It is designed to combine long-range capability with high payload capacity and smooth flight performance, making it suitable for a wide range of onshore and offshore operations.
Airbus says the H175 platform is widely used for disaster relief, search and rescue, public services, and various military missions, as well as crew change operations and private and business aviation.
