CKT UTAS GNATOC donates to Navrongo Central Prison

The dual-pronged outreach is GNATOC’s broader commitment to community service and social responsibility, particularly in the parts of the region that underserved.

The Ghana National Association of Teachers on Campus (GNATOC) at the CK Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) has extended a generous hand to the Navrongo Central Prison through a significant donation of essential supplies.

The initiative, carried out on Friday, July 11, forms part of GNATOC’s annual social intervention projects aimed at giving back to society.

The donated items included bags of rice, cooking oil, boxes of tinned tomatoes, boxes of soap, and basic first aid medications, all intended to ease the burden of care at the correctional facility.

The President of the CKT-UTAS GNATOC Chapter, Inusah Azomdunai, stressed the association’s intent to remind inmates of their inherent worth and potential for a fresh start.

“We are here to let the vulnerable in the prison know that they are not left aloof. There are people who are looking out for them. They should know that this is not the end of life; it is a stepping stone.” Azomdunai stated.

The visit featured words of encouragement from a delegation of GNAT leaders and lecturers, including Albert Apuri, former Chairman of the Kassena-Nankana GNAT Chapter; Ignatus Akibasi, current District Chairman; Charles Ateem, former Bolgatanga Municipal GNAT Chairman; and Francis-Xavier Adams, a lecturer at CKT-UTAS.

“Let the past belong to the past,” Apuri advised inmates. “Think of how to reorganize yourself so that when you come out, you can start life afresh. Life is not about what happened yesterday; it’s about what will happen today. Someday, you will be free.”

Rev. DSP Joachim Abogre, the Ghana Prison Service Upper East Regional Chaplain.

Rev. DSP Joachim Abogre, the Upper East Regional Chaplain of the Ghana Prison Service, expressed gratitude for both the donation and the morale-boosting visit.

“Your donation has come timely because we rely on people’s benevolence to ensure we feed the inmates. The government allocates only GHS1.80 per day for each inmate to be fed three times.” DSP Abogre said.

In a related act of social impact, Malik Zeliatu, Coordinator of the Ladies Society of GNAT at CKT-UTAS, led a donation drive that saw 12 boxes of sanitary towels delivered to female students at Awe Senior High School and St. John’s Integrated Senior High School all in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality.

The gesture aimed to address period poverty and ensure female students can remain focused on their education.

The Ladies Society of GNAT said the dual-pronged outreach is GNATOC’s broader commitment to community service and social responsibility, particularly in the parts of the region that underserved.
