NPP confident of victory in Akwatia By-election despite Global Info Analytics polls

Ayivere insisted that the NPP’s ground campaign and connection with the electorate will deliver victory.

Benjamin Ayivere, a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team for the Chiana-Paga Constituency, says his party is poised to win the Akwatia by-election scheduled for Tuesday, September 2, despite a recent poll projecting an NDC victory.

A survey by Global Info Analytics tipped the National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate, Bernard Baidoo, to secure 53% of the votes, with the NPP’s candidate following closely at 43%.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday, September 1, Ayivere insisted that the NPP’s ground campaign and connection with the electorate will deliver victory.

“I will not sit here and rubbish what Global Info Analytics polls said about the NDC candidate winning the upcoming elections, but for us in the NPP we are on the ground campaigning in Akwatia, and the people will determine who will win tomorrow.” He stated.

Ayivere argued that internal cracks within the NDC could work to the advantage of the NPP. “If the former parliamentary candidate of the NDC had his lawyer, who represented him in the 2024 elections, contest and defeat him, it tells a lot.” He noted.

He also dismissed NDC’s claims that the NPP is banking on sympathy votes following the death of Ernest Kumi, the late MP whose passing triggered the by-election. According to him, the party’s campaign is focused on the very issues that won them the seat in previous elections.

The Akwatia by-election has attracted national attention, as the constituency is considered a swing seat with a history of alternating between the two major parties.
