NDC Communicator backs petition for OSP probe into Bawumia’s procurement of 300 pickups

The petition, filed by Solomon Owusu of the Movement for Change, has reignited conversations about accountability and the source of funding for political campaigns.

Maurice Achana, a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team for the Navrongo Central Constituency, has thrown his weight behind a petition calling for the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) to investigate former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia over the procurement of 300 pickups for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) campaign in the 2024 general elections.

The petition, filed by Solomon Owusu of the Movement for Change, has reignited conversations about accountability and the source of funding for political campaigns.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday, September 22, Achana argued that his support for the petition stems from what he described as the numerous corruption allegations that have previously been linked to Dr Bawumia.

“If it were any ordinary party, I would have no problem. But if you consider the NPP and where they took our country from and where they left it before stepping down, it makes this petition interesting. So if today Bawumia can be boasting of procuring over 300 pickups to advance the NPP’s campaign in 2024, it is legitimate that Bawumia should account for it.” Achana said.

While noting that raising funds for political campaigns is not in itself problematic, Achana stressed that suspicious transactions or acquisitions such as those cited in the petition should be subjected to scrutiny in order to ensure accountability.

The OSP is yet to comment on whether it will take up the petition for investigation.
