Police commence investigations into violent gun attack in Garu that killed four
In a statement, the police said preliminary investigations indicate that four unidentified gunmen, riding on two motorbikes, opened fire on people near the National Health Insurance Scheme office in Garu and shot indiscriminately, resulting in the fatalities and injuries.
The Ghana Police Command says it has launched an investigation into a shooting incident in Garu Township that claimed four lives and left five others injured on Monday October 20, 2025.
In a statement, the Upper East Regional Police Command said preliminary investigations indicate that four unidentified gunmen, riding on two motorbikes, opened fire on people near the National Health Insurance Scheme office in Garu and shot indiscriminately, resulting in the fatalities and injuries.
The statement further said spent cartridges were retrieved from the scene for forensic examination.
The bodies of the deceased have since been released to their families for burial, while investigations continue in a bid to track down and arrest the perpetrators to face justice.
Meanwhile, a joint security taskforce of police and military has been deployed to the town to restore calm.
