Kandiga Naaba appeals to government to absorb community SHS into public system
The Kandiga Community Senior High Technical School began operations in 2010 but has not yet been absorbed into the public system due to the absence of an additional six-unit classroom block.
The Chief of Kandiga, Naaba Henry Abawine Amega-etego II, has appealed to President John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government to fully absorb the self-initiated Kandiga Community Senior High Technical School into the public education system.
The appeal was made during the 2025 edition of the Kandiga Dunseema Festival, held on December 31.
Addressing a large gathering of chiefs, dignitaries, and community members, Naaba Henry Abawine Amega-etego II said the current status of the school is negatively affecting education in the area, as many Junior High School (JHS) graduates are unable to continue their education.
According to the chief, the Kandiga Community Senior High Technical School began operations in 2010 but has not yet been absorbed into the public system due to the absence of an additional six-unit classroom block.
He explained that the Ghana Education Inspectorate Division recommended the facility as a key requirement for absorption.

He further noted that Kandiga has 18 primary schools and 14 junior high schools, making the need for a fully public senior high school critical. The chief urged the President to intervene to ensure the school’s absorption in order to curb the high dropout rate among JHS graduates in the area.
In addition to the education appeal, the Kandiga Naaba also called for the elevation of the Kandiga traditional area to a paramountcy status. He stated that Kandiga qualifies for such elevation, given its long history and his own reign of 53 years as chief.
“Prudent measures should be taken to ensure the elevation of the Kandiga Naaba to a Paramount Chief,” he said, adding that all necessary inspections for elevation by the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs were conducted long ago, but the process has yet to yield a positive outcome.
The 2025 Dunseema Festival, organised by Spotless Events Planners in collaboration with the Kandiga community, brought together traditional authorities, the Kasena Nankana West District Chief Executive, the Member of Parliament for the Chiana-Paga Constituency, and other invited guests.
The festival featured a rich display of culture, including war dances, traditional wrestling, and performances by local women’s groups, among other activities.
