Allegations of plot to rig NPP presidential primaries not surprising – NDC Communicator
Ayipah was reacting to claims reportedly made by a member of the campaign team of one of the NPP’s presidential aspirants, alleging an attempt to manipulate the internal electoral process of the governing party.
A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Navrongo Central Constituency, Charles Ayipah, says he is not surprised by allegations of a plot to rig the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming presidential primaries.
Ayipah was reacting to claims reportedly made by a member of the campaign team of one of the NPP’s presidential aspirants, alleging an attempt to manipulate the internal electoral process of the governing party.
According to him, such allegations could not have emerged without basis, insisting that they reflect what he described as a recurring pattern within the NPP.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday, January 9, Ayipah argued that past public statements by leading figures of the NPP suggest the party is capable of engaging in such acts.
“You will recall that when the NPP was in power, at the least provocation, Kennedy Agyapong would threaten to expose what the party did to come to power. That, in fact, made him almost untouchable within the party.” He claimed.
Ayipah further contended that mistrust within the NPP has deepened due to internal divisions, which he attributed to the leadership of a Fomer President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
“Nana Addo has broken down the party, and now it is badly fragmented. Because of this, people who allegedly played roles in rigging previous elections for the NPP are now in different camps and are suspicious of one another. That is why these issues are now coming out.” He said.
The NPP has since called on the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service to investigate the allegations surrounding the purported plot to rig its presidential primaries, scheduled for January 31, 2026.
