NDC has not implemented any policy directly targeted at reducing poverty – NPP Communicator
Abongpaare argued that successive governments must adopt more pragmatic and deliberate measures to address poverty, which remains a major socio-economic challenge in the country.
A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Team for the Chiana–Paga Constituency, Alhassan Abongpaare Vincent, has criticised the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, accusing it of failing to implement policies specifically aimed at reducing poverty in Ghana.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Wednesday, January 28, Abongpaare argued that successive governments must adopt more pragmatic and deliberate measures to address poverty, which remains a major socio-economic challenge in the country.
“We are talking about poverty. Can we mention even one policy the NDC government has introduced that is directly aimed at alleviating poverty? The answer is no.” He said.
He contrasted the NDC’s record with what he described as pro-poor interventions introduced under past NPP administrations, which, according to him, continue to positively impact the lives of Ghanaians.
“Let me give you examples of proactive poverty-tackling policies introduced by NPP governments: the National Health Insurance Scheme, the School Feeding Programme, LEAP, Free Maternal Care, and Free Senior High School education.” Abongpaare stated.
While acknowledging that the NDC government has continued to implement some of these programmes introduced by previous administrations, Abongpaare maintained that continuity alone is not enough.
He stressed that more targeted and innovative policies are needed to effectively tackle poverty and improve living standards across the country.
