All set for January 31 NPP Presidential primaries in Upper East – Regional Secretary
The Regional Secretary of the party, Atia Figo Awonekai, made this known in an interview on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday, January 30, ahead of the polls.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Upper East Region has announced that all arrangements are in place for the party’s presidential primaries scheduled for Friday, January 31, 2026.
The Regional Secretary of the party, Atia Figo Awonekai, made this known in an interview on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday, January 30, ahead of the polls.
According to him, a total of 8,512 delegates are expected to cast their ballots across 15 designated voting centres in the region.
Awonekai explained that the party initially registered 8,684 delegates, comprising polling station executives, five members from each polling station, election area coordinators, constituency officers, regional officers, former regional officers, and former government appointees, among others.
“Out of the 8,684 registered delegates, some have passed on, others have forfeited their positions, while a few have resigned. These account for a total of 172, bringing the final number of eligible voters to 8,512.” He clarified.
The Regional Secretary expressed optimism about the outcome of the exercise, describing it as another significant step in the party’s growth and consolidation.
“I am very confident that after tomorrow, everything will fall in line for the return of the elephant in 2028.” He said.
Awonekai further assured delegates and party supporters that adequate security arrangements have been put in place to ensure a peaceful and orderly process.
He added that the Electoral Commission and all relevant stakeholders are fully prepared for the exercise.
“The party is well prepared for tomorrow. Security arrangements are far advanced, the Electoral Commission is ready, and we are equally prepared to ensure a smooth and successful primary.” He stated.
He concluded by urging delegates to conduct themselves responsibly and in a manner that would safeguard the unity and success of the party before, during, and after the primaries.
