Navrongo MP donates 200 dual desks to Kassena-Nankana Municipality

The lawmaker noted that the intervention was inspired by visits he made to schools in the constituency before entering Parliament, where he observed pupils sitting on the floor, benches, and even stones due to shortages of furniture.

The Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central Constituency, Simmon Akibange Aworigo, has donated 200 dual desks to the Ghana Education Service (GES) in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality to improve teaching and learning conditions in public basic schools.

The desks were officially handed on Friday, January 30, 2026, during a brief ceremony attended by education officials, teachers, students, and members of the media.

The lawmaker noted that the intervention was inspired by visits he made to schools in the constituency before entering Parliament, where he observed pupils sitting on the floor, benches, and even stones due to shortages of furniture.

“For me, we all agree that it is not a congenial environment for teaching and learning.” He said.

Aworigo described the donation as a modest beginning and pledged to make similar contributions annually over the next four years to close the furniture gap in schools gradually.

“These are not just desks. They are workstations for our young people.” He explained.

Receiving the desks, the Kassena-Nankana Municipal Director of Education, Thomas Kanlisi, expressed gratitude to the MP, describing the donation as timely and impactful.

“I am the happiest person on earth today. About 400 of my junior high school learners now have seating places.”

However, Kanlisi appealed strongly to school authorities and students to take good care of the furniture so it would last for many years.

“We expect that this furniture should be used for over ten years,” he said, warning pupils against dragging desks across classroom floors.”
