A group of pepper traders in Paga, known as the Sigibunga Nimoro Modam Pepper Sellers Association, has donated medical non-consumables to the Kassena-Nankana District West District Hospital ( Paga Hospital ) to aid in healthcare delivery.
The donation included a 5-litre oxygen concentrator, four boxes of latex gloves, each containing 100 mini boxes, and two boxes of IV cannulas.
At the presentation event held at the forecourt of the hospital on Friday July 27, 2025, Bonna Bayire, the Associate Secretary of the association, said the donation is part of their resolution to give back to society.
“We believe in giving back to society. One day, we might also benefit from this donation because giving to a hospital is the same as giving to the nation.” Bayire said.

Receiving the items on behalf of the hospital, the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, Dr. Didier Oteng, assured the group that the donated items would be efficiently used for their intended purposes.
Dr. Oteng, however, highlighted the significant challenges the hospital faces, including inadequate infrastructure and the lack of a hospital vehicle.
“The hospital is doing its best to provide healthcare. Even though we just got upgraded from a health centre to a hospital in 2020, we have been leading as the best primary hospital in the region for the past three years since 2022.” He said.

Wenawome Aborah, Chairperson of the Paga Youth Movement (PAYOM), a community development-focused movement, praised the pepper sellers’ association for contributing to healthcare in the district. He also called on other organisations and individuals to support the numerous development needs of the area.
“Their initiative is laudable and a wake-up call to everybody that the government cannot do everything alone. It is time to think that each government property belongs to us and help us get the best from government facilities.” Aborah said.
