UDS lecturer encourages Navrongo Youth to acquire competitive skills for job market

Dr. Pealore further observed that although numerous opportunities exist within the job market, many young people remain unaware of them or are inadequately prepared to take advantage of such prospects.

A youth advocate and lecturer at the University for Development Studies, Dr. Zachary Pealore, has called on young people in Navrongo to equip themselves with relevant skills to gain a competitive edge in the job market, both locally and internationally.

Dr. Pealore emphasized the importance of capacity building and career guidance in shaping the future of the youth, noting that such initiatives are critical in preparing them for sustainable employment and productive lives.

He made these remarks during a career development and capacity-building training session organized for young people in Navrongo on Saturday, April 4.

According to him, while government continues to make efforts to address youth unemployment, it cannot single-handedly bridge the gap, hence the need for individuals and stakeholders to contribute to youth development.

“Today, we organized a capacity-building session focused on career development for the youth of Navrongo. While government is making efforts to create employment opportunities, it cannot do it alone”.

“As a native, I saw the need to help build the capacity of our young people to prepare them not only as job seekers but also as job creators,” he said.

Dr. Pealore further observed that although numerous opportunities exist within the job market, many young people remain unaware of them or are inadequately prepared to take advantage of such prospects.

“Many of the youth in Navrongo are not aware of the opportunities available in the job market and are not well-prepared to compete effectively,” he noted, expressing hope that the training would help bridge this gap and create sustainable livelihoods.

The training, organized on his personal initiative with support from Link Ghana, covered key areas such as job search strategies, identifying credible job platforms, developing marketable CVs, and goal setting.

Participants at the event expressed appreciation for the initiative, describing it as impactful and eye-opening.They were also presented with certificates upon completion of the training.

“This training has helped us understand where to search for opportunities and how to present ourselves to be competitive in the job market,” one participant said.

Another added, “The programme has been very insightful. It has opened our eyes to many things. We were encouraged to adopt the ‘eagle mindset’, stay focused, set clear goals, and work towards achieving them while maintaining a positive outlook.”

The initiative is part of his personal commitment to empowering young people in the area with practical skills and knowledge to navigate the increasingly competitive job market.
