Make a will before it’s too late – Zundema Assembly Member urges Men

According to him, many families are plunged into confusion, conflict, and prolonged legal battles due to the absence of a legally binding will.

The Assembly Member for Zundema Electoral Area in the Builsa North Municipality, Ignatius Akaboka, has advised men to take proactive steps to secure the future of their families by going to court to make a will in order to prevent unnecessary disputes over property and the mistreatment of their wives and children after their death.

According to him, many families are plunged into confusion, conflict, and prolonged legal battles due to the absence of a legally binding will.

Speaking in a media interview on Wednesday, February 25, 2026  Akaboka noted that in several cases, immediate family members of deceased persons especially widows and children suffer neglect, intimidation, and unfair treatment from extended relatives when property matters are not clearly documented.

Akaboka stressed that making a will is not a sign of inviting death but a responsible decision that demonstrates love and concern for one’s family. “As men, we must ensure that the properties we struggle to acquire do not become a source of division and suffering for our wives and children when we are no more,” he stated.

He explained that a legally recognized will, processed through the appropriate court, clearly outlines how a person’s assets should be distributed, thereby minimizing misunderstandings and disputes among family members.

The Honorable Member further urged religious leaders, traditional authorities, and community opinion leaders to intensify public education on the importance of estate planning.

He added that protecting one’s spouse and children from future hardship is a duty every responsible man must take seriously.

Akaboka concluded by calling on men across the country to act now and secure their family’s future through proper legal documentation, emphasizing that prevention is always better than conflict.
