NDC Communicator praises Kassena-Nankana West DCE’s Accountability Forum
Alfred Aliah commends DCE Stephen Aeke Akurugo for presenting the Assembly’s development achievements, challenges and future plans, scoring his performance 65 per cent and expressing hope for further improvement.
A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team in the Chiana-Paga Constituency, Alfred Aliah has praised the Kassena-Nankana West District Chief Executive (DCE), Stephen Aeke Akurugo, and the District Assembly for what he describes as a spectacular Accounting to the People Forum.
Aliah said the forum demonstrated transparency and provided an opportunity for residents to assess the Assembly’s performance and contribute to discussions on the district’s development.
He made the remarks on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday, October 16.
The forum, held on Friday October 9, brought together stakeholders, civil society organisations, political parties, duty bearers and residents to review the Assembly’s development activities over the past two years.
According to Aliah, the engagement was well organised and enabled the Assembly to present a sector-by-sector account of its performance, supported by pictorial evidence of completed and ongoing projects.
He explained that the presentation went beyond highlighting achievements to outlining the challenges confronting the Assembly and development projects planned for the future.
Aliah described the initiative as an important feature of modern governance, arguing that it promotes citizen participation and helps residents understand government interventions in their communities.
“This is the way to go. We were able to carry the people along. People are able to appreciate what the government is doing.” he added.
The NDC communicator further noted that the forum formed part of a broader accountability process initiated at the national level, with the President, ministers and regional ministers also accounting to the public before district chief executives followed suit.
He said such engagements provided residents with a broader picture of development across the district, rather than limiting their understanding to projects within their individual communities.
Assessing the DCE’s performance, Aliah scored him 65 per cent, taking into consideration the projects undertaken, those in the pipeline and the challenges outlined during the presentation.
He expressed optimism that Akurugo would improve his performance before the end of his tenure.
“I’m giving 65 per cent because I’m of the hope that by the end of his tenure, at least, he will not score less than 90.” he stated.
