Parenting is becoming more difficult than ever – Kizito Akanyomise
He says rapid technological changes, social media influence, and increasing social pressures are making parenting more complex, urging parents to take their responsibilities seriously to safeguard the future of society.
Retired Educationist and Family Life Advocate Kizito Akanyomise has raised concerns about the growing challenges parents face in raising children in today’s world.
Speaking on Voices of Change on Saturday, April 11, 2026, Akanyomise emphasized that parenting is a serious responsibility that must be treated with utmost importance, as it plays a critical role in shaping society.
He noted that while parenting has never been easy, it has become increasingly complex due to the rapid advancement of technology, the influence of social media, and global pressures.
“In the past, parents mainly focused on raising children within their homes and communities. Now, they are raising children in a world shaped by constant technological change and globalization.” He said.
Akanyomise further explained that modern parenting challenges are compounded by expanding educational demands and work responsibilities.
“Parenting used to be communal, and anyone could discipline a child who was going astray. Today, that is no longer the case. Conditions in the past were different—there was less exposure. Now, with electricity, social media, and widespread access to information, parenting has become more difficult.” He added.
He also warned that poor parenting can have serious consequences for society, including drug abuse, rising crime rates, and broken homes.
