Domestic fires lead fire incidents in Kassena-Nankana Municipality – DOII Maxwell Atanga
Domestic fires remain leading cause of fire outbreaks in Kasena Nankana Municipality — Fire Commander

The Kassena-Nankana Municipal Fire Commander, DOII Maxwell Atanga, has disclosed that domestic fires remain the leading cause of fire outbreaks in the municipality.
According to the Divisional Officer Grade II (DOII), the situation is largely due to the neglect of basic fire safety practices in homes, particularly carelessness and forgetfulness during the use of gas cylinders and other electrical appliances.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Thursday, May 7, 2026, DOII Atanga urged members of the public to exercise caution when using household appliances to help prevent avoidable fire outbreaks.
“When you are cooking with a gas cylinder, kindly pay full attention to the process. Unfortunately, some people try to do two or more things at the same time, which sometimes results in forgetfulness,” he stated.
He also advised market women, traders, and business owners to strictly adhere to fire safety measures in their workplaces and ensure that basic firefighting equipment is readily available to respond to emergencies.
DOII Atanga further revealed that a total of 31 fire incidents were recorded in the municipality between January and April 2026.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the Ghana National Fire Service to collaborate with residents to reduce fire outbreaks and safeguard lives and property within the municipality.
