Kassena-Nankana MCE commissions KG block at Pungu, urges community to maintain facility

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Kassena-Nankana Municipal Assembly, Faustina Akeyom Abulu, has officially handed over a newly completed two-unit kindergarten classroom block with auxiliary facilities to the people of Pungu Central to enhance early childhood education in the area.

The project, which commenced in December 2025 and was funded through the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), includes a two-unit classroom block, headteacher’s office and store, two staff offices, a three-unit WC toilet facility, a bathroom, and an overhead water tank support system.

Addressing community members and opinion leaders during a short handing-over ceremony on Thursday, May 7, Abulu underscored the importance of proper maintenance of the facility to ensure its longevity and sustainability.

“This facility belongs to the community, so it must be treated with the utmost care just as you would your own home. Monitor it closely and uphold a strong maintenance culture,” she advised.

The MCE noted that the provision of the facility would help create a solid educational foundation for young learners and contribute to securing a brighter future for children in the community.

She also expressed appreciation to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government under President John Dramani Mahama for making resources available through the DACF to support such critical infrastructure projects.

The Kasena Nankana Municipal Director of Education, Thomas Kanlisi, commended the Assembly for the intervention and assured that the facility would be put to effective use.

“I want to assure the Assembly and the community that now that we have taken over the facility, we will ensure it is properly utilised,” he stated.

Kanlisi further stressed the need for regular maintenance, recounting how a school he once knew for its impressive infrastructure had deteriorated over time due to poor upkeep.

On his part, the Assembly Member for the Pungu Central Electoral Area, Jacob Wekia Awelaga Kulwefera, expressed gratitude to the Assembly for the project and pledged the community’s commitment to maintaining the facility.

“I want to thank the Municipal Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament for remembering the people of Pungu Central. This project means a lot to us and will help nurture young learners towards a brighter future,” he said.

He further appealed to authorities to support the community in addressing the furniture challenges facing the Pungu Primary School.
