Mercy Abada defends NDC’s job creation agenda, urges youth to exercise patience
NDC communicator highlights apprenticeship, entrepreneurship, and 24-hour economy initiatives as sustainable employment measures while urging young people to support ongoing economic recovery efforts.

A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team for the Navrongo Central Constituency, Mercy Abada, has defended the government’s job creation agenda, stating that the administration has rolled out several sustainable employment initiatives aimed at improving the livelihoods of young people across Ghana.
Speaking on The Big Mike Breakfast Show on Wednesday, May 20, Abada said the NDC government is focused on creating long-term and sustainable employment opportunities rather than short-term solutions.
According to her, some of the key interventions introduced by the government include the National Apprenticeship Programme, the Student Entrepreneurship and Enterprise Development (SEED) Programme, the Adwumawura Programme, and the proposed 24-Hour Economy policy.
She explained that the 24-Hour Economy initiative alone is expected to generate thousands of jobs by encouraging businesses and industries to operate around the clock, thereby expanding productivity and employment opportunities.
Addressing concerns from some youth within the party over the pace of recruitment and employment, Abada argued that the current economic challenges were largely inherited from the previous New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.
She noted that the government had to prioritize economic stabilization before embarking on large-scale employment initiatives.
“We did not inherit a resilient economy as the NPP would want Ghanaians to believe. We do not want to create a situation where appointment letters are issued without proper planning on how to pay workers. That is not sustainable and could lead to the collapse of the economy,” she stated.
Abada further appealed to the youth to remain patient and continue supporting the government as it works to strengthen the economy and expand employment opportunities across the country.
