Navrongo NPP Chairmanship Race: Chasco endorses Solomon Navanse Kwovia ahead of delegates’ poll
In a statement addressed to delegates, Chasco recounted his long-standing relationship with Kwovia, dating back to their childhood in Navrongo-Pungu in the late 1990s.
A member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Navrongo Central constituency and former Special Aide to the late Joseph Kofi Adda, Achaari Wenawome Clifford, popularly known as Chasco, has publicly endorsed Solomon Navanse Kwovia for the party’s Constituency Chairman position ahead of Saturday’s delegates’ election.
In a statement addressed to delegates, Chasco recounted his long-standing relationship with Kwovia, dating back to their childhood in Navrongo-Pungu in the late 1990s. According to him, Kwovia was unable to continue his education after completing Pungu Junior High School due to financial constraints and relocated to Accra in 2001 in search of better opportunities.
Chasco said they reconnected during the 2008 election campaign through the late Joseph Kofi Adda and that Kwovia has since remained actively involved in party affairs through grassroots mobilisation, financial contributions and organisational support.
He cited Kwovia’s role in mobilising supporters from Ashaiman to assist with election-day security during the 2012 general elections, an exercise that allegedly led to their arrest and detention before charges against them were later withdrawn.
Chasco also credited Kwovia with playing a significant role in the formation of the “Furious Invisible Forces” in the Upper East Region ahead of the 2016 general elections, describing him as a fearless and committed party activist who has continued to support the NPP both in government and in opposition.
According to the statement, Kwovia has contributed to development initiatives in the constituency, facilitated employment opportunities, paid school fees and medical bills for individuals, supported small businesses, and continued assisting the party financially even after it lost political power.
Chasco argued that Kwovia possesses the experience, mobilisation skills, courage and ability to unite the party, having worked with successive party leaders, including the late Joseph Kofi Adda, Tangoba Abayage and Alhaji Otito Achuliwor. He maintained that the constituency needs a chairman capable of mobilising both people and resources as the party prepares to reclaim the Navrongo Central parliamentary seat in the 2028 general election.
Chasco also criticised what he described as attempts by some candidates to use academic qualifications as a campaign issue against Kwovia, arguing that effective political leadership depends more on commitment, sacrifice, mobilisation and service than on educational credentials.
He further praised Kwovia for supporting students in universities, teacher training colleges and senior high schools, saying such interventions demonstrate his commitment to improving lives despite not holding any political office.
As delegates prepare to cast their ballots, Chasco appealed to them to vote based on competence and proven leadership rather than family ties or friendships. He also urged Kwovia to remain calm, humble and disciplined throughout the process and, if elected, to unite all former constituency executives, including those led by Anthony Mensah, popularly known as “Spinoza,” to strengthen the party ahead of future elections.
