Navrongo: 2026 Fao Festival launched with call for unity and development
Traditional leaders and residents rally around culture, environmental sustainability, and community development as activities begin towards the 2026 Fao Festival celebrations.
The Navrongo Traditional Area has launched the 2026 Fao Festival with a call on residents to embrace unity, preserve their cultural heritage, and work collectively towards the development of the area.
The launch, held on Sunday, July 19, at the forecourt of the Navro-Pio’s Palace, brought together chiefs and people of the Navrongo Traditional Area, members of the festival steering committee, distinguished sons and daughters of the land, development partners, well-wishers, and invited guests.
Addressing the gathering, Chairman of the Fao Festival Steering Committee, Professor Ayaga Bawah, welcomed participants and urged them to take an active part in all activities lined up for the celebration.
“Let us embrace unity, celebrate our culture with pride, and work together to ensure a peaceful and successful festival,” he said.
Professor Bawah explained that the launch marks the beginning of a series of activities leading to the grand climax of the festival.
These include the greening Navrongo initiative, the Navrongo traditional area economic prosperity forum, the Fao development dialogue, a medical outreach programme, a youth indigenous knowledge competition, and a grand durbar of the chiefs and people of the traditional area on December 31, 2026.
The Paramount Chief of the Navrongo Traditional Area, Pe Denis Aneakwoa Balinia Adda II (Pe Asagpaare II), together with the Chief of Manyoro and Chairman of the launch, Pe Prof. Pwakweah Atudiwe Atudipaare Manchi III, symbolically planted trees to inaugurate the greening Navrongo initiative, one of the flagship programmes of this year’s festival.
The ceremony also featured colourful cultural performances by various traditional dance troupes from across the traditional area, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the people.
The 2026 Fao Festival is being celebrated on the theme: “Celebrating our heritage, building unity, inspiring development.”
