The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly, Roland Atanga Ayoo, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of several government-funded development projects following an inspection tour across the municipality.
The inspection, conducted on Thursday, July 30, covered ongoing and completed projects at Kolgu-Agusi, Yorogo-Gabisi, Daporetindongo, Sawaba, Aperiga-Dorongo and Waribisi-Tanzui, as well as the ongoing street lighting project and the Bolgatanga Central Market public washroom.
Speaking to the media after the exercise, Ayoo said the projects demonstrate the government’s commitment to improving education, healthcare, sanitation and economic development under its reset agenda.
“We have a story to tell. As we went round, we’ve seen that we’re doing schools, CHPS compounds, renovation works and street lighting. This shows that the government is delivering on its promises,” he stated.
He noted that the inspection revealed significant progress, with many of the education and health projects either completed or nearing completion.
According to him, the completed school and health facilities would soon be handed over to the Ghana Education Service and the Ghana Health Service for operational use.
He explained that the new classroom blocks and kindergarten facilities would improve access to quality education, particularly for children in rural communities who previously travelled long distances to school.
At Kolgu-Agusi, the team inspected the construction of a three-unit classroom block with an ICT laboratory, library, staff common room, headteacher’s office, store and sanitation facilities for the Junior High School.
The contractor, Michael Ayindenaba, said the project was about 78 per cent complete and expressed confidence that it would be completed and handed over before schools reopen at the end of August.
The team also visited Yorogo-Gabisi, where a newly completed two-unit kindergarten block with a toilet facility, urinal and children’s playground was inspected.
Municipal Head of Works, Engineer Richard Bosco Mensah, confirmed that all contract specifications had been completed except for the installation of the artificial safety surface for the playground.
He explained that the kindergarten project was undertaken after a needs assessment identified the absence of an early childhood education facility in the community.
Residents welcomed the project, saying it would reduce the distance children travel to school, improve attendance and create a better learning environment.
The inspection further covered the rehabilitation of the CHPS Compound at Daporetindongo and the construction of new CHPS compounds at Sawaba and Waribisi-Tanzui.
Ayoo said the health facilities would improve access to primary healthcare services for residents living in remote communities and reduce unnecessary referrals to health facilities in Bolgatanga.
He, however, expressed concern over delays affecting the Sawaba CHPS project and disclosed that the contractor had been summoned to explain the slow pace of work.
The MCE also inspected the ongoing street lighting project, where the first batch of 110 poles is currently being installed across major roads in the municipality.
He said the initiative would enhance security, promote business activities and support the government’s 24-hour economy agenda.
“We are making sure that the highways are covered. It will not only boost businesses but also reduce armed robbery and other criminal activities at night,” Ayoo stated.
He appealed to residents to protect the street lighting infrastructure from vandalism, noting that the new lighting system is directly connected to electricity lines to minimise theft.
At the Bolgatanga Central Market, the team inspected the public washroom earmarked for renovation using the Assembly’s Internally Generated Funds to improve sanitation and generate additional revenue.
Ayoo also disclosed that a newly established market committee would address congestion by engaging traders occupying access roads, while assuring residents that more development projects, including additional street lighting, would continue across the municipality.
