UTAS 2025/2026 SRC hands over to new leadership, urges continued focus on student welfare
Outgoing SRC President Alhassan Abdulai highlights key welfare and infrastructure achievements as newly elected President Douglas Adoliwine pledges to build on the gains and introduce new initiatives.
The outgoing 2025/2026 leadership of the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the University of Technology and Applied Sciences (UTAS), Navrongo, has handed over to a newly elected leadership with a call to sustain its achievements and continue prioritising student welfare.
The call was made during a handing-over ceremony held on Tuesday, August 18, to formally usher in the new SRC administration.
Addressing the gathering, the outgoing SRC President, Alhassan Abdulai, said although the administration faced several challenges, it remained committed to its mandate and successfully completed its tenure.
“It’s been a year of meetings, negotiations, disagreements, sleepless nights, difficult decisions, unexpected challenges, victories, disappointments, and, above all, service,” he said.
Abdulai said the administration understood from the beginning that its success would not be measured by promises but by tangible results.
“When we assumed office, we understood that leadership would not be measured by the eloquence of our promises, but by the evidence of our work,” he stated.
Abdulai highlighted several achievements recorded during his administration, including the negotiation of a reduction in the fee payment requirement for course registration from 100 per cent to 60 per cent, as well as securing a two-week extension of the registration period.
The administration also secured 1,500 lecture hall furniture units, installed 12 air-conditioning units and provided curtains and other facilities to improve the learning environment.
Other achievements included the completion of the Catholic Church, Mosque/Navro Hall linking culvert, securing more than 200 non-residential hostel placements, providing transport support to students and assisting more than 400 students through its food bank initiative.
The outgoing SRC also facilitated the integration of National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) services into the University Hospital, while strengthening the SRC’s institutional capacity through the acquisition of media equipment, a motorcycle, dual desks and other assets.
Abdulai urged the incoming executives to remain focused, confront challenges with determination and work diligently to deliver on their mandate.

The newly sworn-in SRC President, Douglas Adoliwine Abagna, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the student body and pledged to lead with humility, integrity and a commitment to service.
He said his administration’s vision was to “pioneer a smart student governance that makes learning equitable for every mind on campus.”
Abagna outlined plans including the introduction of a UTAS SRC application and efforts to improve campus security through a comprehensive illumination policy, among other initiatives.
He called for unity and collective support from students to enable the new administration to succeed.
“I call on the entire student body to stand united with this executive front. In the crucible of unity, our differences melt away, leaving only the pure, unyielding fire of a common goal,” he said.
A Senior Lecturer at the Department of Statistics and Actuarial Sciences, Dr (Mrs) Anuwoje Ida Abonongo, commended the outgoing SRC leadership for its contribution to improving student welfare on campus.
She congratulated the new executives and urged them to remain committed to their mandate and live up to the expectations of the student body.
“Respect the student body and within yourselves, stay focused and unite towards achieving your goals,” she advised.
The ceremony concluded with the presentation of citations to deserving members of the outgoing leadership in recognition of their contributions and service to the student body.
