NDC ready to consolidate agenda 15,15 ahead of 2028 elections – Constituency Organizer
George Abeliwine Apasigo urges NDC members to unite after the branch elections and strengthen party structures as the party targets consolidation and improved performance in the 2028 elections
The Navrongo Central Constituency Organizer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), George Abeliwine Apasigo, has called on party members who emerged victorious in the recent branch elections to unite and strengthen the party’s structures ahead of the 2028 general elections.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Wednesday, August 19, Apasigo also urged candidates who were unsuccessful in the elections not to feel excluded, but to work alongside the newly elected executives to advance the party’s agenda.
He said the NDC’s regional, constituency and branch executives remained strategic, committed and hardworking, expressing confidence in the party’s organisational structure ahead of the next elections.
Apasigo said the NDC would focus on consolidating what he described as its “Agenda 15,15” while working to improve its electoral performance in 2028.
He maintained that the NPP did not pose a threat to the NDC, arguing that his party had previously competed strongly against the NPP even when the latter was in government and had access to state resources.
Turning to the recent NPP Upper East Regional elections, Apasigo described the polls as peaceful but raised concerns about what he considered inadequate representation of some zones within the regional executive structure.
He disagreed with the view that zones without elected representatives should not regard their lack of representation as a challenge.
According to him, regional executives play a critical role in decision-making and the distribution of resources across constituencies.
“The kind of democracy that we are running, resources have to come to the region before they are distributed into the constituencies. And who does the distribution? The regional executives. So if you have an executive there, then your zone won’t lack,” he said.
Apasigo argued that excluding some areas from elected representation could weaken the party’s organisational foundation, regardless of the strength of its overall leadership.
He likened the situation to constructing a building on a weak foundation, warning that such a structure could eventually collapse.
On the performance of the Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, Apasigo defended the MP against criticisms regarding his commitment to education and medical training.
He described the MP as one of the best representatives the constituency has had and said the initiative to support education and medical training was not merely a campaign promise but formed part of the NDC’s 2024 manifesto.
According to him, the initiative remains ongoing, with information available to him suggesting that the first batch of medical students could soon be enrolled.
