Government will expand school infrastructure to meet rising enrolment–Akanyele
NDC Communications Team member Richard Akanyele says government will expand basic and senior high school infrastructure to accommodate rising student enrolment.
A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Communications Team for the Navrongo Central Constituency, Richard Akanyele, says the government will continue to expand educational infrastructure to accommodate the growing number of students entering senior high schools across the country.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday, September 14, Akanyele said the challenges associated with the 2026 BECE school placement, as well as other difficulties confronting the basic education sector, require collective efforts from all stakeholders to address them.
He said the rising number of candidates qualifying for senior high school each year requires corresponding investment in infrastructure at both the basic and senior high school levels.
According to him, the government intends to improve and expand educational facilities to create adequate space for the increasing student population and reduce pressure on existing infrastructure.
“We will continue to improve infrastructure at the basic level to accommodate, and senior high level to accommodate, the increasing numbers of our students,” Akanyele said.
He stressed that infrastructure expansion must form part of broader efforts to strengthen Ghana’s education system and ensure that increased access to education does not place undue pressure on existing facilities.
Akanyele said the government’s interventions are therefore aimed at addressing both the immediate needs of students and the long-term demands of the country’s education sector.
He maintained that the NDC government would continue to invest in education as part of efforts to provide Ghanaian children with a stronger foundation for the future.
