One year in office too early to judge NDC as a failed government — Alfred Aliah

Aliah maintained that the NDC remains within its social contract period with the people of Ghana and should be assessed fairly over the full term.

A member of the Communications Team of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Chiana-Paga Constituency, Alfred Aliah, has argued that it is premature to describe the party’s administration as a failed government barely one year into its four-year mandate.

Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday, February 23, Aliah maintained that the NDC remains within its social contract period with the people of Ghana and should be assessed fairly over the full term.

“We have a social contract with the people of Ghana for four years. It is too early to judge us as a failed government after just one year,” he stated.

According to him, the year 2025 was primarily dedicated to resetting and stabilising the economy, which he described as having been in a distressed state when the NDC assumed office.

“The country cannot be stabilised within one year. We inherited a struggling economy, and it requires time and careful measures to fix it,” he explained.

Aliah pointed to what he described as modest but tangible improvements in the cost of living, citing the nine per cent salary increment for workers as a step in the right direction. He argued that, in practical terms, some Ghanaians are already feeling relief.

“Workers who commute daily from town to communities such as Kandiga and Mirigu can testify that the amount they spend weekly on fuel has reduced compared to previous years,” he said.

While acknowledging that challenges remain, Aliah insisted that the government has made measurable progress.

“I am not saying that everything is okay, but there is clear improvement compared to where we took over the country from,” he added.

He further noted that the past year has rekindled hope among many Ghanaians who previously felt despondent about the country’s economic outlook.

Aliah assured citizens that the NDC is a listening party and would treat recent one-year assessment reports as constructive feedback.

“Where there are challenges that need adjustment, they will be addressed. We take the concerns of Ghanaians seriously and remain committed to delivering on our mandate.” He said.
