Builsa Youth demand inclusion of Chuchuliga–Sandema–Fumbisi–Wiesi road in 2026 Budget
According to the group, the road serves as a major economic road for the Builsa area and its rehabilitation would greatly enhance trade, agriculture, and access to social services across the Upper East Region.
The Builsa Youth for Development has called on President John Dramani Mahama and the government to prioritse the completion of the stalled Chuchuliga–Sandema–Fumbisi–Wiesi road by including it in the 2026 national budget, which is expected to be presented to Parliament this week by the Minister of Finance.
According to the group, the road serves as a major economic road for the Builsa area and its rehabilitation would greatly enhance trade, agriculture, and access to social services across the Upper East Region.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Monday November 10, the Acting President of the association, Ignatius Akaboka, appealed to the government to demonstrate genuine commitment by allocating funds in the new budget to resume construction works that have been stalled for years.
“We are calling for what is due us for a very long time, the budget has not yet been read, inputs can be made at the last minute, the good people of Bulisa have a message for the government to include our road.”
He lamented that the road, which connects key farming communities, has seen no significant improvement since as far back as 1992, despite several promises by successive governments.
“I attest to the fact that since 1992, when we first came to multi-party democracy the only portion of the road that has seen a facelift was just within the Sandema community, just some few kilometres. That was somewhere in 1992-1993. And since then, government upon government have always seen that that is a major priority of the people of Bulisa.”
Akaboka further expressed concern that the poor state of the road has had a devastating impact on agriculture, the mainstay of the local economy, making it difficult for farmers to transport produce to market centers, especially during the rainy season.
The group noted that fixing the Chuchuliga–Sandema–Fumbisi–Wiesi road would not only improve mobility but also open up the Builsa area for economic growth and development. It, therefore, urged the government to back its commitment to rural development with concrete action by funding the project in the upcoming budget.
