The Chaina Pio made the call during the 14th celebration of the annual Chiana Fao Festival held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, on the theme, “Accelerated Education for All: The Role of Effective Partnerships.”

The Paramount Chief of the Chiana Traditional Area in the Kassena-Nankana West District, Chiana Pio, Pe Ditundini Adiali Ayagitam III, has renewed calls for the creation of a new constituency and district carved out of the Chiana-Paga Constituency and the Kassena-Nankana West District.

The Chaina Pio made the call during the 14th celebration of the annual Chiana Fao Festival held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, on the theme, “Accelerated Education for All: The Role of Effective Partnerships.”

Addressing the durbar of chiefs and people, Pe Ditundini highlighted key developmental challenges affecting socio-economic growth in the area, appealing that the creation of a new district and constituency for the Chiana area would adequately address the development gap.

“One of the surest ways to address the infrastructure gaps in education, health, roads and access to overall public services to my people is to heed to the plea of my people to give us a separate constituency and a separate district.”

He noted that if his appeal is granted, it would not only fulfil an age-old request made to successive governments over the past two decades but also deliver improved public services to his people.

“My call for a separate district and constituency is more than justifiable and granted in geographic equity, devolution of power and a fulfilment of the government’s committed social contract with my people.” He added.

Pe Ditundini also called for deliberate investment in education, particularly in infrastructure projects at the Chiana Senior High School.

“Permit me to appeal to the Ministry of Education through you to fast-track the completion of the stalled administration block, establish a science laboratory, renovate and construct new staff bungalows, construct new dormitories and classrooms in the Chiana Senior High School to enhance the delivery of teaching and learning outcomes in the school.”

Mahama Ayariga, the Member of Parliament for Bawku Central and Majority Leader, who addressed the gathering as the special guest of honour, called on chiefs to actively champion education in their communities and urged collaborative efforts to achieve the government’s vision for education under its Reset Agenda.

“Chiefs are not only custodians of land and culture but also guardians of values, discipline, and community cohesion. When traditional leaders actively champion education, tangible outcomes follow: improved school attendance, reduced early marriages, strengthened discipline, and deliberate community investment in the future of children.”
