Upper East NPP condemns alleged unfair treatment of promoted teachers
NPP calls on GES and government to correct alleged errors in promotion letters and ensure affected teachers receive all arrears due to them.
The Upper East Regional Directorate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has condemned what it describes as the unfair treatment of teachers following the conclusion of the 2025 Ghana Education Service (GES) promotion examination process and the release of promotion letters.
According to the party, affected teachers across the country are facing frustration, anxiety and disappointment over delays in the implementation of their promotions, payment of related arrears and alleged errors contained in some promotion letters.
In a statement signed by the party’s Upper East Regional Communication Director, Dr Samuel Akonga, the NPP said teachers who qualified for promotion sat for their examinations on December 31, 2025, but had to wait until April 2026 for the results to be released.
The party said the affected teachers have since been waiting for the full implementation of their promotions and payment of arrears associated with their new ranks.
The NPP expressed concern over reports that the GES is processing promotion arrears with a substantive date of July 2026 instead of April 2026.
It questioned why teachers who completed their examinations and received their results in April should allegedly be denied arrears covering the period from April to July.
“Teachers are not asking the government for a favour. They are asking to be treated fairly and to receive what they have legitimately earned,” the statement said.
The party also raised concerns over alleged inaccuracies in some promotion letters issued to teachers.
It said it had received reports of teachers being issued promotion letters indicating schools in districts where they do not teach, as well as errors and distortions concerning the identities and employment details of some affected teachers.
The NPP has consequently called on the government and the Ghana Education Service to take immediate steps to correct the alleged errors and ensure that every affected teacher receives a promotion letter accurately reflecting their identity, rank, school and other relevant employment information.
The party said its intervention was not intended to undermine the GES or the government, but was aimed at promoting fairness, accountability and respect for teachers.
It stressed that teachers play a critical role in Ghana’s human capital development and should be treated with dignity and fairness.
The NPP urged the government to address the concerns of the affected teachers to prevent frustration and resentment from deepening.
The party further assured teachers that it stood with them and pledged that, if returned to government, it would work to improve their welfare, professional dignity, career progression and working conditions.
