Engineer clarifies scope of Chuchuliga road contract after viral video
My Turn Limited explains that the remaining stretch towards Sandema falls under a separate contract package, not an abandoned project.
The Site Engineer of My Turn Limited, Ing. Bismark Kpobi, has dismissed claims that the Chuchuliga-Sandema road project has been abandoned, assuring residents that work is progressing according to the project’s approved scope.
Speaking during an inspection of the road project by the Upper East Regional Minister on Wednesday, July 29, Kpobi explained that the contractor had substantially completed the first phase of the contract, contrary to claims circulating on social media.
He said the current contract ends approximately 800 metres from the point where the inspection was conducted, with only the final finishing works expected to continue until December.
“Where we are standing now, the contract finishes about 800 metres from here. The remaining works are mainly the final dressing, which we expect to complete by December,” he explained.
Kpobi noted that the section of road leading from the project endpoint towards Sandema is not part of the current contract package, stressing that it has not been abandoned as suggested by some bloggers.
According to Bismark, the Ministry of Roads and Highways has already taken inventory of that remaining stretch in preparation for future works.
“We are hoping that under the next phase of the Big Push awards, the contractor will be given an extension through Sandema to Fumbisi,” he said.
The engineer explained that the contractor is presently focused on completing the first 10-kilometre package as stipulated in the contract before any extension is considered.
“It is not like this place has currently been abandoned. It is under a different package, but presently we are focusing on the first 10 kilometres,” Bismark emphasized.
He expressed optimism that once additional contracts are awarded, work would continue beyond the current endpoint to improve connectivity between Sandema and Fumbisi.
The clarification formed part of the Regional Minister’s working tour, which was undertaken to address public concerns and misinformation that emerged after a viral social media video questioned the status of the Chuchuliga road project.
