From roads to schools: NDC says Mahama’s Upper East Tour is delivering
Raymond Adiali says President Mahama’s Upper East tour is advancing key projects in roads, education, aviation and infrastructure while fulfilling commitments to the region.
The NDC Communications Team Member for the Chiana-Paga Constituency, Raymond Adiali, has described President John Dramani Mahama’s ongoing Resetting Ghana Tour of the Upper East Region as a major step towards accelerating development in the region.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Friday, August 14, Adiali said the President’s visit demonstrates his commitment to fulfilling promises made to the people of the Upper East Region during the 2024 election campaign.
He said the region’s 15 parliamentary seats going to the NDC in the 2024 elections is a responsibility the President takes seriously, hence his decision to personally engage communities and inspect development projects.
According to him, the President’s visit has already brought attention to key projects, including the Upper East Regional Airport project, the Navrongo-Chuchuliga-Tumu road and the laboratory complex at the University of Technology and Applied Sciences.
“The president’s visit to the region is not for anything, but for the good of the region.” Adiali said.
Adiali also welcomed the President’s commissioning of the E-block at Paga Senior High School and the announcement that the school would be given boarding status, describing it as an important development for students and residents of the Chiana-Paga Constituency.
He said the planned construction of additional facilities, including boys’ and girls’ dormitories and a multipurpose dining hall, would provide the infrastructure needed for the school to operate effectively as a boarding institution.
On the Navrongo-Chuchuliga-Tumu road, Adiali said residents had suffered for years because of the poor condition of the road, including accidents and difficulties with transportation.
“We have been through hell. We lost lives on that road, and seeing the president coming to cut sod for the road to start, I think it’s a good thing.” He explained.
He further explained that the contractor had made progress on the project and expressed hope that the road would be completed within the stipulated period and to the required quality.
Adiali also defended preparations made ahead of the President’s visit, saying it was normal for communities to put themselves in order before receiving an important visitor.
“Our culture is designed in a way that when a visitor comes to your house, you have to clean it.” He said.
He therefore urged residents to focus on the long-term benefits of the projects rather than criticising temporary arrangements made to facilitate the President’s movement.
