The Minister of Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has donated GH₵40,000 to establish a foundation to support the annual Speech and Prize-Giving Day of the Navrongo Senior High School (NAVASCO).
The announcement was made by the Deputy Minister of Education, Dr Clement Apaak, during the school’s 8th Speech and Prize-Giving Day, held on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
“Let me quickly announce what my boss has asked me to share with you. The Minister of Education, in addition to the pledge I made on his behalf, has directed me to present to NAVASCO an amount of GH₵40,000 as seed money for what he describes as the NAVASCO Speech and Prize-Giving Foundation,” Dr Apaak disclosed.
Dr Apaak, who served as the Special Guest of Honour, also assured the school community that efforts were underway to address key challenges facing the institution, including infrastructural deficits and inadequate furniture.
“Hon Haruna Iddrisu, in whose stead I am here today, has made special arrangements for his alma mater. He says I should tell you that, in addition to the computers he has already provided, issues concerning infrastructure, academic and residential facilities, as well as inadequate furniture, are being worked on assiduously. Very soon, you will hear good news.” He stated.
The Deputy Minister commended NAVASCO for its consistent contribution to national development through the training of disciplined and visionary leaders across various sectors.
Addressing the theme for the celebration, “Countering Drug Abuse: Measures and Strategies Towards Effective Teaching and Learning for Building Ghana’s Human Capital,” Dr Apaak expressed deep concern about the rising trend of substance abuse among the youth.
“The issue of drug abuse is real, and it is silently destroying the dreams of many of our young people. Many have become addicted to substances such as codeine, tramadol, marijuana, and shisha, which are finding their way onto campuses,”
“We cannot fail this generation, it is our collective responsibility as teachers, parents, and community leaders to lead the fight against drug abuse,” he urged.
The event brought together Dignitaries including the Deputy Minister of Education, Dr. Clement Apaak, who served as the Special Guest of Honour; the Upper East Regional Minister, Donatus Akamugri Atanga; the Navro-Pio, Pe Asagepaare II, and his sub-chiefs; the Member of Parliament for Navrongo Central, Simon Aworigo; and the District Chief Executive for the Kassena Nankana West District, Stephen Aeke Akurugo and a representative of the Kassena Nankana Municipal Chief Executive.
Heads of various senior high schools in the region, alumni, parents, and community leaders also attended the ceremony.
