Helicopter crash report exposes Ghana’s lack of seriousness in handling critical issues – NDC Communicator
Abada said she was saddened by the revelations contained in the report that investigated the tragic incident.
A member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Navrongo Central Constituency, Mercy Abada, has expressed deep concern over the government’s report on the recent military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians. She said the findings reflect a worrying lack of seriousness in how the country handles critical national issues.
Speaking on the Big Mike Breakfast Show on Wednesday, November 12, Abada said she was saddened by the revelations contained in the report that investigated the tragic incident.
“When you look at the report, what was the line of communication when this incident happened? We are told that the Z-9 helicopter lacked modern navigation systems, real-time monitoring devices, and terrain awareness systems. This shows a certain lack of seriousness.” She said.
Abada questioned how an aircraft with such technical deficiencies could have been used for critical operations.
“Imagine if the President had been scheduled to take that aircraft. You would be putting a whole President on a flight without these essential systems. It means no one at the Air Force was monitoring the helicopter or had the tools to detect an emergency. For me, that was a huge blunder.” She lamented.
She also criticized the response of the military following the crash, describing it as inadequate, and urged the security agencies to handle such incidents with greater professionalism.
Abada, however, welcomed the investigative team’s recommendation for the Ghana Air Force to be retooled, calling for a non-partisan approach to national security discussions.
“We should depoliticize issues relating to security and the military. Let’s have a patriotic conversation about retooling the Air Force and our security services in general. If a new presidential jet is needed, let the experts make the technical assessment and advise accordingly.” She said.
Abada emphasised that political considerations must never override national safety, urging that lessons be learned from the crash to prevent future tragedies.
