The Chief of Kandiga, Naaba Henry Abawine Amega-Etego II, has appealed to government and benevolent organisations to support the expansion of the Nindongo CHPS compound to improve healthcare delivery in the area.
According to the chief, the self-initiated two-room facility, which has served the community for 16 years, lacks critical infrastructure, including a maternity ward and other auxiliary facilities such as sanitation units.
Naaba Amega-Etego II made the appeal during a fundraising event held in the community on Saturday, May 2, under the theme: “Bringing healthcare services to the doorsteps of the people: a shared responsibility.”
He stressed that corporate and institutional support is essential to extend healthcare services to all residents, particularly women and vulnerable groups.
The Assembly Member for the Nindongo Electoral Area, Mathew A. Akakuzia, noted that the community recognises that development cannot be left solely in the hands of government.

“We, the people of Nindongo, have realised that government alone cannot handle the responsibility of community development. That is why we initiated this CHPS compound, which began as a mud structure and has now been developed into a two-room block facility,” he said.
Akakuzia explained that the fundraising event aims to mobilise resources to expand the facility to include a maternity ward and other essential amenities.
“We are appealing to the public to support this initiative so we can improve healthcare delivery in our community,” he added.
He further highlighted that the absence of a maternity facility forces pregnant women to travel long distances to Bolgatanga or Navrongo to access delivery services, posing risks to both mothers and their babies.
